Turn Your Backyard Into An Ice Rink

Are you a fan of ice sports? Do you want to turn your backyard into an ice rink? If you answered in positive, you are at the right place. Installing an ice rink is relatively easier as compared to wooden ones which are hard to put up and are really not an affordable option to cover a vast area. To build ice rinks, you would require a flat area, a large plastic tarp along with some extra power tools, some PVC, and of course, water. If you do not want to get into the hassles of actually building a rink, you can get a portableice rink from the market and ease your job. Anyways, the installation process goes like this-
  • Prepare the ground - The first step is to prepare the ground. Remove all the snow and clear the spot. Make sure the area is free from sharp rocks and ice. You heard It right- remove the ice.
  • Cut the liner - Once the ground is clear, it’s time to cut the liner (preferably in half) to get a 40ft/50ft tarp. It will allow you to get an extra year out of the liner in case something goes wrong later on.
  • Prepare for PVC- Use your power tools and start measuring, marking, and cutting pipes. The pipes need to be cut as they are what holds the tarp down. They will work even if there are strong winds. Create a small slot (preferably 2 to 3-inches), which is good enough for a 4-inch pipe. If you want, you can also clamp another PVC pipe to it so that it does not spin
  • Add water - Add some water by using a hose. Make sure you don’t over flow. Let the water freeze for some time.
So these were some tips for building an ice rink in the backyard. Do you think that the process is not suitable for a DIY project? Get portable skating rink and simply install it.
