Understanding Rink Systems in a Better Way

We all know and have probably seen the ice rinks, which are the frozen body of water that can generally hardened by the use of specific chemicals. This is where we can play our favorite winter sports or perform skating. Ice rinks can act like a platform where you can watch amazing athletes showing their exceptional talent in figure skating or something similar to that. You can also cheer aggressively when players throw down in ice hockey. As of now, there are mainly two varieties of ice rink systems. The first is the natural rink type where ambient cold temperatures freezes a water body, and the second is the artificial rink, where chemicals (commonly known as coolants) generate cold temperatures with the aid of specialized machines to freeze the water.

If you want to construct a rink or need someone who can do it for you, at first, you have to understand the components that goes one such system. When we think of artificially frozen water, our minds most of the time thinks about refrigerators and air conditioners. Coincidentally, that is not far from how actually the ice rinks work. The only difference is how the refrigerant operates. In ice rinks, the refrigerant brings down the temperature of the brine water (anti-freezing agent), which flows through pipes beneath the ice. These steel pipes are usually embedded into a concrete slab and kept at a temperature of 32 F or 0 C. This is done so as to make the water placed over the slab to freeze and then transform into the skating surface. A level of insulation is placed under the concrete slab so that the ice shrinks and later expand as an when required. That being said, these are not the only components that constitute the floor of an ice rink, below the skating surface, the chilled concrete, and insulation some with the following levels — heated concrete, water drainage, and gravel base.

We hope you found the information provided in this blog post to be useful, and now it is time for you to look for high-quality dasherboards and other hockey rink accessories to make the game more enjoyable and fun.
