Top 4 Reasons to Choose Ice Rink Liners For Outdoor Hockey

Using a liner is perhaps the best way to make a successful natural outdoor hockey rink in any location throughout Canada and the US.  When you have the objective of creating a great rink for yourself or for the community which is going to pass the test of longevity and money, hockey rink liner is the best way to go. With that being said, here are some good reasons to use a liner instead of going for asphalt, concrete, or grass.

1 Easier to set up

It takes eternity in a freezing night time for the ice to build up ice without the application of a liner even when it concrete or asphalt.  While using a liner, it is as easy as the 3 F's --- frame, freeze, and fill.  Frame the boards by using sleek brackets, fill the liner covered frame, and then wait for the cold freeze to act. Once you can fill the rink, it becomes do easy.

2 Longer seasons

When an ice rink liner is not used, the builders of the rink must wait till they gather enough confidence with the freezing cold weather. An unlined rink built which is made too early may become a total waste when you are fully relying on frozen ground to make a connection with the saturated water puddles.

 3 Reduced maintenance

A lined rink is able to resist thaw/freeze scenarios with so much ease. A thaw in reality is able to enhance the surface of the rink as the water finds its own level and smoothness itself out in a natural way. When the cold returns, it could sometimes require as little as a single day to have the rink back and operating like it used to in usual days.

4 Cost Savings

Water can become too expensive at times. For example, in Chicago it costs about $15 for a thousand gallons. A compact residential rink could take about 5000 gallons of water, on the other hand, a park and recreation rink may use over a hundred thousand gallons. In the absence of a liner, water can seep away into the lawn on warmer days. With a liner being present, it just takes a single fill up.
